First Flu Death Reported: 2018-2019 Season

FIRST DEATH REPORTED IN CONNECTICUT

Health officials in the Connecticut area confirmed the first flu death of the 2018-2019 season. The state department of public health reported the patient was over the age of 65 years of age. So far the state has had 22+ hospitalizations related to the flu, and that’s just the start.

GET VACCINATED

Officials are urging the public to get vaccinated before it’s too late. It takes about 2 weeks for the shot to become effective so better sooner than later. The flu season usually begins to get more severe around thanksgiving as students get back home from college and school break.

TOO EARLY TO KNOW THE SEVERITY

It is still too early to fully estimate the severity of the 2018-2019 flu season until more data comes in. Considering last year’s data (the worst flu season in decades) it’s a safe bet to prepare for another intense season.
